Applied Research and Development
Code & Science is an independent studio led by Alexander Kutschera, working at the intersection of software engineering, scientific research, and prototyping — turning new ideas into prototypes and working technical solutions across computer vision, data analysis, digital fabrication, and biotechnology.

Turning complex data into insights through statistical and computational methods.
Workshops
Practical sessions that pass on tools and methods — learning by building.
Alexander Kutschera, PhDApplied Research
I'm a molecular biotechnologist who moved into software and hardware development — first through bioinformatics, then by building computer vision systems for plant phenotyping. I've never been interested in staying within one discipline. What excites me is combining research, code, and experimentation to make ideas tangible. Today that means working at the intersection of scientific research, engineering, and AI — building prototypes, training my own vision AI models, and running workshops that make complex topics accessible.
Selected Work

RAYN Vision System Camera
A compact multispectral camera for plant research that images the canopy under narrow-band LEDs instead of using filters or spectral sensors.

Workshops are my way to share knowledge, learn together, and explore new tools in a practical setting — a focus shaped by the years I spent leading an educational makerspace and growing it into a self-sustaining nonprofit.
